Ever wonder what the view of Mars would be if it were as close to us as our moon? Would it glow a belligerent red in our night sky and confuse moths the world over? How about Neptune: would it cast a seductive blue glow over the body of your lover as she lies recovering from a delicious round of rodgering? Now imagine Jupiter, our solar system’s largest planet with moons that are twice/thrice the size of ours… what would they all look like if they had to take the place of our moon, without cataclysmically affecting life on our planet? Imagine the gravitational effect on the earth if Jupiter was the close. The tides would be awesome! Great surf!

  The tides would indeed be awesome! Surf’s up! However, the gravitational forces would likely cause the Earth to careen into Jupiter. And if we somehow managed to establish an orbit around Jupiter, the immense gravitation stress this giant planet exerts on Earth would probably cause it to go super volcanic like Jupiter’s closest moon, Io.

Tres cool video! WHAT a spectacular sky we’d have with Jupiter or Saturn in the hot-seat (and humanity would have the largest source of hydrogen sulphide in the entire solar system, right on our doorstep. I know what I mean, and you do too!)

I found watching Jupiter rise up over the horizon to be kind of disturbing. It’s so big!
